Brian McCue, 21, was walking on the 400 block of West Adams Street on the morning of Oct. 22 after being stabbed in his back.

Macomb Police Department (MPD) was dispatched at 1:25 a.m. and determined that McCue was “highly intoxicated” and that he had walked to West Adams Street from an unknown location.

McCue, suffering a wound on his back near his left shoulder, was transported to McDonough District Hospital, and later became combative with both hospital staff and paramedics, causing him to be charged with aggravated battery.

According to MPD, a suspect has been identified in relation to the stabbing case and the investigation is ongoing.

The Western Illinois University Office of Public Safety sent out a campus-wide safety notice early Saturday morning to alert students of the stabbing.
