McDonough County Sheriff’s Dept. find human remains

On Friday, the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department was notified by a farmer who reported finding a blue jacket in a corn field southeast of Good Hope.  Police arrived on scene and discovered human remains.  According to a release from Sheriff Rick VanBrooker, a positive identification has not yet been made but the remains are believed to be those of Michael W. Mason, 34, of Bushnell, who went missing earlier this summer after running into a cornfield under the influence of Methamphetamine.

Mason went missing on July 4. The farmer contacted police around 3:00 p.m. today and officers discovered a wallet with identification, leading them to believe the remains belong to Mason. “Further testing will be conducted before a positive identification is declared,” reads the release. The event is currently under investigation.
