New millenium brings hopeful new beginnings

Joshua Monninger

I woke up yesterday morning and the first things I saw were two very special people to me – my wife and her son, who coincidentally is also named Joshua. Wrapping my arms tightly around both of them, I was happy for the new millennium, all of the new beginnings it brings us and the new life it has given me.The new beginnings allow everyone to start new lives for themselves and improve the lives they already have. When the clock strikes midnight, the entire world gets the feeling that no matter how bad the prior year – or in this case, millennium – there’s a chance to start fresh with a “clean slate.”

Over the past seven months, my life has had several dramatic changes for the better, of course. In fact, to say that my life’s done a complete 180 wouldn’t be too far from the truth.

My life’s gone from living at home without anyone truly special in my life to falling in love and marrying an incredible woman, getting a stepson, moving into married housing on campus and learning my wife and I are expecting a child.

Therefore, with the new millennium came the start of a new but wonderful life for my wife, my son and I. This new life may take a bit of time to get used to, but time is forever and that’s what we’ll have together.

As previously mentioned, the new year is always famous for giving people new hope and increasing everyone’s chances for reaching their dreams. Maybe not everyone’s had such significant changes in their lives as mine, but all changes for the better are a step in the right direction.

We’ve all got our new beginnings – the chance to perfect our lives. We just need to take that first step into the future.

Hopefully, when your clock struck midnight, your life started improving from that point and hasn’t yet stopped on its track.
