Sophomore Michael Castel earned a 76th place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional competition in DeKalb, Ill. on Saturday.

Castel, a native of Moline, Ill., finished in 33:21.13 in the first 10K race of his collegiate career. A total of 171 runners participated in the race.

Oklahoma State edged out Oklahoma by 3 points to earn the team title. Tulsa, Minnesota and Illinois rounded out the top five. Minnesota senior Hassan Mead earned the individual title, running a 31:16.87.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

A total of 49 Leatherneck competitors set new season-best times at the House of Champions meet, hosted by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday.

Freshman Doug Ogilvie placed third in one-meter diving for Western. Brandon Wilkinson took fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Senior Jamie Grau finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke and seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke for Western.

The Leathernecks take on Illinois-Chicago in their next competition on Saturday, December 17.
