Loconsole awarded Summit league honor

Western Illinois senior pitcher Brian Loconsole was named Summit League Pitcher of the Week for his performances in Western’s pair of wins at Michigan over the weekend. The honor is the first-ever for Loconsole.

The righty made two appearances during the Michigan series, picking up two saves in three total innings on the mound. Loconsole threw 1.1 innings on Friday in the 5-3 victory over the Wolverines, and 1.2 innings in the 2-1 win in game two of the doubleheader on Saturday.

Loconsole now has five saves on the year, which puts him in a tie for the single season record at Western Illinois. The senior is also just one save away from tying the career saves mark of six.

This season Loconsole has appeared in every Leatherneck victory. He has a 1-0 record and 1.59 ERA to go along with his five saves. The Carol Stream, Ill. native also has eight strikeouts in his 11.1 innings of work on the mound.

Loconsole and the Leathernecks will be back in action this weekend (Mar. 29-31), as they travel to Chicago to take on the Illinois-Chicago Flames in a three-game set. Friday’s game is set for 6:05 p.m., while the games on Saturday and Sunday will start at 1:05 p.m.
